Farmers’ markets are full to the brim with locals selling produce they have cultivated, grown and harvested themselves, ensuring every dollar you spend goes into the pocket of the hard-working farmer. Victorians are lucky enough to live in a culture hotspot with many markets to choose from. Here are five of the best the state has to offer. 

1. Bairnsdale Farmers’ Market (Gippsland)
Some of the finest fresh produce can be found in Gippsland. The Bairnsdale Farmers Marketoffers stalls upon stalls of fresh, locally grown and homemade produce including pure honey, cheeses, marinates, fresh organic bread, smoked meats, homemade ice cream, fudge and plenty more. 2. Koondrook-Barham Farmers’ Market (The Murray)
Held on the banks of the Murray River, the Koondrook-Barham Farmers’ Market offers some gorgeous local scenery paired with delicious fresh produce. Located in the small town of Koondrook, this market allows local farmers and growers the chance to sell their produce directly to the community and show off their finest fares. Bring the kids along for a cooking class at 10am, where they use fresh ingredients straight from the market to create yummy treats.

3. Golden Plains Farmers’ Market (Great Ocean Road)
Just a short drive from Geelong lies the Golden Plains Farmers’ Market, a popular market for both visitors and locals alike. Here you can pick up some organic eggs, sourdough breads, organic vegetables and much more. Learn about growing your own vegetables by taking a walk through the market’s herb and veggie garden, relax while listening to live music, or peruse the arts-and-crafts stalls that are sure to keep you entertained.

4. Talbot Farmers Market (Goldfields)
Hailed by many as one of the best farmers’ markets in the country, Talbot Farmers’ Market is worth the two-hour drive from Melbourne. With more than 80 stalls displaying the best of regional Victoria’s produce, you’re sure to find something new with each visit. Taste the difference of fresh organic products such as cheeses, meats, wine, fruit, veggies and more. You can also pick up high-quality stock feed, plants and seedlings, or even fresh flowers for the ideal touch to your home! Walk through the stalls while being serenaded by the local musicians and be sure to enter the famous barrow raffle, where you can win an entire barrow full of fresh produce donated by the stallholders.

5. Mansfield Farmers’ Market (High Country)
Journey to the heart of Mansfield to find this great market, showcasing fresh regional produce that has come straight from the paddock. You’ll find plenty of artisan stallholders selling delicious cheeses, freshly baked breads, olive oils, meats, fruits and much more. The Mansfield Farmers Market is a great choice for fresh local produce.
