It seems as soon as we’re pulling down the Christmas tree, it’s already time for chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and other sweet treats. As the year flies by, we’ll promptly find ourselves (and the kids) eager for the Easter break and the Easter Bunny. Be prepared and make the most of your long weekend by heading to these popular celebrations held throughout Victoria.

The High Country Easter Festival – Dinner Plain, VIC – 03 April to 05 April 2015

With great events running daily over the Easter break, The High Country Easter Festival in Dinner Plain simply cannot be missed. Perfect for the whole family, this festival is jam-packed with fun activities both parents and children will love – with much of it free of charge! Let the kids burn their extra chocolate-driven energy with a free game of basketball, tennis or Disc golf. If you’re looking for something a little more chilled out, this festival takes place out in the country of Victoria – hence the name – which means there is plenty of space to sit down and relax, or head out for a soothing nature walk.

Bendigo Easter Festival – Bendigo, VIC – 02 April to 06 April 2015

The Bendigo Easter Festival is a favourite for both locals and visitors, not only providing a wide range of great activities, but also focusing strongly on the area’s Chinese culture and heritage. Sit back and enjoy some live music, or get your creative juices flowing at the Rotary Art, Craft and Produce Market – there is simply so much to do, you’ll be glad they’ve given you five days to do it all. Bring the kids and participate in the Vision Australia Easter Egg Hunt, where children eagerly search haystacks for their prizes. All proceeds from the egg hunt go to the Vision Australia charity.

Falls Creek Easter Festival

The annual Falls Creek Easter Festival will soon have you rubbing your hands together with glee, as this is one of the most popular Easter festivals held across the state. Of course there’s the mandatory egg hunt, but there are some other – more strange – Easter traditions held here. If you venture up to the high country this April, you’ll be impressed by their big Easter breakfast, and challenged by their ‘Egg-stroadinary’ egg toss event. There really is something for everyone here, which makes the trip absolutely worth it. Do rug up though: the temperature here is roughly 10 degrees cooler than Melbourne.

About a two hours’ drive north of Melbourne, the small town of Rushworth comes alive for the annual Easter Heritage Festival, which takes place over Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday. The community’s many clubs and associates pull together to provide a wonderful family-friendly event, with street parades, jazz bands, singers and many other forms of entertainment. A highlight of the event is the Snakebusters reptile shows, where kids and adults alike get the chance to handle some slithery creatures! Will you be game?
