Whether you’re up for a game of two-up or you’re counting down the days to the ANZAC Day Clash, Melbourne has something for everyone. If you’re looking for the top spots to spend ANZAC Day, check out these key events taking place in Melbourne this year.
Dawn Service
The Dawn Service is a touching ceremony that many people make a tradition of attending each year. It’s definitely worth rolling out of bed a little early to experience.

  • What: The ANZAC Day Dawn Service 2017
  • Where: The Shrine of Remembrance Forecourt, Kings Doman, St Kilda Road, Melbourne
  • When: Tuesday 25th April, 6am (it’s recommended that you arrive at 4:30am)
  • Tips: The Dawn Service will finish at around 6:30am. You will then be invited to lay poppies inside the sanctuary, so be sure to stick around until the very end.

The ANZAC Day March is a great way for the whole family to get involved in commemorating this special day.

  • What: The ANZAC Day March 2017
  • Where: Intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets, down St Kilda Road, concluding at the Shrine of Remembrance
  • When: Tuesday 25th April, 9am
  • Tips: The march will finish at around 1pm, followed by a commemorative service on the Shrine Forecourt, so bring water and snacks and make a day of it.

Eats and Drinks
Gather your loved ones and commemorate ANZAC Day in style – with a full stomach and a cold one in hand at an ANZAC Day event in one of the many buzzing venues in the city.

  • What: Meals, drinks, and two-up
  • Where: Mail Exchange Hotel, 688 Bourke Street, Melbourne
  • When: Tuesday 25th April, open from 7am for breakfast, two-up from midday
  • Tips: As this is one of the most popular ANZAC Day destinations in the city, be sure to book ahead for lunch or dinner.

Around 100,000 people in Melbourne will be enjoying ANZAC Day by watching one of the biggest AFL matches of the year.

  • What: Essendon vs. Collingwood in the ANZAC Day Clash, opening with The Last Post and a minute’s silence
  • Where: The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Brunton Avenue, Richmond
  • When: Tuesday 25th April, gates open to the public at 12:30pm
  • Tips: Tickets sell really quickly for this iconic game. If you miss out on seats for this year, be sure to get in quick for next year’s game – you have to experience the action of this long-lived rivalry at least once!
