Resting in the far-northeastern corner of New South Wales is Byron Bay – once a small beach village, this town has gained traction in popularity thanks to its beautiful scenery and alternative lifestyle. Along with pristine beaches and an overall relaxed atmosphere, Byron Bay provides a tranquil setting that’s brimming with culture including live music gigs, health-focused cafes, photo galleries, shops and a huge range of markets. If you’re planning a trip to this much-loved pocket of northern NSW, here are a few places to find some of the most amazing guilt-free foods and markets


Butler Street Reserve Markets

You really haven’t experienced the true Byron Bay feel until you visit the markets held on Butler Street reserve, every first Sunday of the month. Described as one of the best markets in the region, this market goes on for several acres – ensuring you’ll have to make a full day of it! Browse a wide range of traditional and eclectic stalls, providing hand-crafted goods and locally grown produce. With so many colourful stalls, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a market wonderland!

Top Tip

If you’re bringing the kids along, there’s plenty of activities here to keep them entertained. Keep them amused with candle-making classes, face painting, tie dying and a range of rides. You might even find your new favourite hobby!


Fundies Wholefood Market

If you’re a foodie, like so many locals and visitors in Byron Bay, you will find your calling here. Adorably located at the Historic Post Office, Fundies offers a wide range of local produce – fresh and delicious – housed by one of the oldest buildings in town. This store has just about everything, from flour and grains to nuts, dried fruits, vegetables and international groceries. Better yet, once you’ve finished shopping, you can stop by their café next door. All dishes are made from their own fresh produce so you can be sure of quality. Have an organic coffee, treat yourself to lunch and enjoy the surroundings.
